Where to Travel in Summer 2026
Travellagio · 5 min read
Summer is peak travel season in the Northern Hemisphere. Here’s where to go for the best balance of weather, crowds, and value.
Best value: Eastern Europe & Balkans
Albania, Montenegro, Croatia, Georgia — Mediterranean weather at a fraction of Western European prices. The Albanian Riviera and Georgian Black Sea coast are particularly underpriced in summer.
Classic but crowded: Western Mediterranean
Greece, Spain, Italy, Portugal — perfect weather, but July–August prices spike 50–100%. Go in June or September for the same weather with 30% lower prices and fewer crowds.
Escape the heat: Scandinavia & Iceland
20–hour daylight, 15–22°C temperatures, hiking season. Norway, Sweden, and Iceland are expensive but the endless daylight is worth it. Book accommodation early — capacity is limited.
Shoulder season deals: Southeast Asia
It’s “wet season” in Thailand, Bali, and Vietnam — but that means short afternoon showers, not constant rain. Prices drop 30–50% and tourist sites are blissfully empty.
The Americas
Peru: Dry season in the Andes. Best time for Machu Picchu and trekking.
Canada: The Rockies, Vancouver, Québec City — warm and spectacular.
Colombia: Medellín’s eternal spring, Cartagena’s coast, and coffee region hiking.
