Best eSIM for Turkey in 2026
Travellagio · 5 min read
Turkey has excellent mobile coverage — 4G works across the country, including Cappadocia, the Aegean coast, and most rural areas. But there’s one major catch that trips up travelers: Turkey’s IMEI registration system.
The IMEI issue
Turkey requires foreign phones using local SIM/eSIM cards to be registered within 120 days, or they get blocked from the network. For tourists on short trips (under 120 days), this usually isn’t a problem — but some eSIM providers use local Turkish carrier SIMs that trigger the check. Choose an eSIM that roams onto Turkish networks (using an international profile) rather than a local Turkish eSIM to avoid this entirely.
Coverage
Three carriers: Turkcell (best coverage), Vodafone Turkey, TurkTelekom. All three have excellent 4G across tourist areas. Turkcell has the widest rural coverage.
Data plans
- Tourist eSIM (roaming): 5GB/7 days: $8–12. 10GB/14 days: $15–22.
- Regional Europe plan (includes Turkey): Often better value if you’re combining Turkey with Greece or other European countries.
Tips
- Turkey has great free Wi-Fi in hotels, restaurants, and malls. You’ll use less data than expected.
- Install before you fly — standard advice.
- Keep your home SIM for WhatsApp messages and 2FA codes.
