Georgia for Israelis: visa-free for 365 days, plus the new insurance rule (2026)

Georgia is one of the easiest destinations for Israeli passport holders: no visa, no application, and a very long permitted stay. But one rule changed at the start of 2026 that catches people out at the border. Here is what you need, based on official and legal sources, with the details checked in October 2026.

Do Israelis need a visa for Georgia?

No. Israeli citizens can enter Georgia visa-free and, according to Georgian government information summarised by Entry Conditions, stay for up to one year (365 days) per entry. The rule covers tourism, business meetings and visiting friends or family. It does not cover formal employment, which has its own permit rules.

That makes Georgia unusual: most countries with visa-free access for Israelis cap the stay at 30 to 90 days.

The new insurance rule from 1 January 2026

Since 1 January 2026, foreign visitors to Georgia are required to hold health and accident insurance for the whole stay. Legal and visa-news sources report the following:

  • The minimum coverage is 30,000 GEL.
  • The insurance can be checked at the border, whether you arrive by air, land or sea.
  • Proof can be on paper or electronic, in Georgian or English.
  • Diplomatic and official passport holders are exempt.

The measure was published by the Consular Department of Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and is explained by Andersen Georgia and Eurofast. Practical tip: keep the policy as a PDF on your phone, in English, showing the dates and the coverage amount. A policy that only covers part of your stay, or whose limit is below 30,000 GEL, may not satisfy the check.

What to bring

  • A valid passport. It should be valid for your whole stay and have a blank page for the entry stamp.
  • Proof of insurance that meets the rule above.
  • A return or onward ticket, accommodation details and proof of funds. These are commonly recommended and may be asked for, even if they are not always checked.

Before you go

Entry rules change, and this one changed recently. Confirm the current requirements on the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs consular site (geoconsul.gov.ge) and with your airline before you fly. We update this page when we learn of changes, and the date above is when we last checked.
