Vietnam has had one of the more traveler-friendly visa evolutions in Southeast Asia over the past few years. Here’s the current picture for 2026.
Entry & visa status
Vietnam’s universal e-visa system, covering nearly all nationalities for stays of up to 90 days, remains in place and continues to be the simplest route for most travelers — apply online, get approval by email, no embassy visit needed. UK and most EU passport holders also retain a separate 45-day visa-free allowance for short trips.
What’s changed recently
Domestic flight capacity between Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City has continued to grow, making the classic north-to-south route noticeably easier to book at reasonable prices than it was a few years ago. Da Nang and Hoi An have also seen steady hotel investment, keeping mid-range options competitive despite rising international interest.
Cost check
Vietnam continues to hold its position as one of the most budget-friendly countries in the region for food, accommodation, and local transport, generally running somewhat below Thailand for an equivalent trip.
