Thailand’s tourism rules have been in flux more than most Southeast Asian destinations over the past few years. Here’s what’s actually current heading into 2026, kept up to date as rules shift.
Entry & visa status
Most EU, US, UK, and Israeli passport holders can still enter Thailand visa-free for tourism, with the exact allowance (30 or 60 days depending on nationality and entry method) worth double-checking against the official Thai immigration site before booking, since this is the one detail that has moved around in recent years.
Digital arrival requirement
Thailand has continued rolling out its digital arrival card system, which most travelers now complete online shortly before arrival rather than filling out a paper form on the plane. It’s free and takes a few minutes — worth doing in advance to skip the queue.
What’s changed on the ground
Bangkok’s transit system has kept expanding, making it easier to skip taxi traffic between the airport, old town, and newer districts. Phuket and Koh Samui have both seen continued hotel construction, which has kept mid-range accommodation prices more competitive than the pre-2023 spike suggested they’d become.
Cost check
Thailand remains excellent value relative to Vietnam’s slight cost edge — still meaningfully cheaper than most of Western Europe for food, accommodation, and internal flights, even after a few years of steady tourism recovery pricing.
